Michael Thompson, MD, PhD, is primarily interested in understanding the pathophysiology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, with a focus on disease progression. He is currently studying the role of maternal dietary exposures during pregnancy in risk for development of fatty liver disease in the offspring in line with the developmental origins hypothesis. His work utilizes a mouse model of maternal obesity to evaluate liver pathology in the offspring and molecular techniques to understand the mechanism behind increased risk.
