Through our clinical and education programs, we empower our patients to prevent or delay complications and live a life similar to their peers without the disease. Managing diabetes is a team effort that involves health care providers, diabetes educators, schools, family, friends and the greater community.
St. Louis Children’s Hospital is the only pediatric hospital in the state of Missouri certified by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and recognized for excellence in diabetes education. We care for approximately 2,000 pediatric patients with diabetes from throughout the Midwest region, with patients from Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana and Kentucky. Each year, we see more than 200 new diabetes patients and provide inpatient care and diabetes education to more than 300 inpatients for diabetes-related issues.
